Abstract

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease worldwide and is closely associated with obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and metabolic syndrome. Progressive hepatic inflammation and fibrosis determine the long-term prognosis of NAFLD. Although liver biopsy remains the gold standard for disease assessment, its invasive nature limits routine clinical use.
