Abstract
Lateral epicondylitis, also known as tennis elbow, is a prevalent condition characterized by pain and tenderness around the common extensor origin at the elbow. The conservative treatment options include rest from strenuous activity, physical therapy, and use of braces, whereas invasive interventions include corticosteroid injections and surgical procedures. Literature mentions the role of myofascial release and active stretching exercises in the management of lateral epicondylitis. The present study has been designed to address the effectiveness of myofascial release and stretching exercises in the management of lateral epicondylitis. Method: 50 patients with lateral epicondylitis, aged between 30 to 45 years were equally and randomly assigned into two Groups i.e., Group A (myofascial release technique) and Group B (stretching exercises). Group A consist of 25 subjects who were given myofascial release and ultrasound. Group B consist of 25 subjects who were given stretching exercises and ultrasound. In both Groups, treatment was given for 3 days per week (alternate days) for four weeks. The results of the present study showed statistically significant values for VAS, PRTEE, HGS when Group A vs. B comparison was done (p value≤.05). Conclusion: The improvement between pre- to post-treatment for both Groups A and B was observed but the post-treatment comparison of the groups showed that there was greater improvement in Group A.
