The Recent Updates on the Diagnosis of Tuberculosis

Abstract
One major worldwide health concern is tuberculosis (TB). TB was the most common infectious disease in the globe prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The cause of tuberculosis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, has afflicted people for thousands of years. The Mantoux skin test and the interferon-gamma release assay are two diagnostic methods with predictive and diagnostic limitations. Although they have increased diagnostic accuracy, innovations like molecular nucleic acid amplification tests are still unavailable in many high-prevalence areas. To improve TB detection even more, new diagnostic tests are being developed and put into use. Our aim of work was to analyze the updated guidelines in the diagnosis of tuberculosis. We came to the conclusion that diagnosing tuberculosis (TB) entails assessing symptoms, medical history, and physical examinations before testing for TB bacteria. Chest X-rays, blood tests (IGRA) or skin tests (TST) for infection, and sputum analysis utilizing quick molecular assays (NAAT/GeneXpert) or smear microscopy are important tests. Treatment depends on a timely diagnosis. Additionally, more research is needed to evaluate the revised recommendations for tuberculosis diagnosis.
