Pteropus giganteus is one of the largest and most conspicuous of all fruit bats. We conducted P. giganteus day roosts survey in Southern Tamil Nadu. We have located 382 day roost trees in 63 places. The individuals were hanging in large established tree branches belonging to 14 families, including 21 plant species. P. giganteus preferred majority in Combretaceae (Terminalia arjuna, n=80), Moraceae (Ficus spp., n=65) and Annonaceae (Polyalthia longifolia, n=56) family trees for their day roost. They preferred taller and larger trees as day roost. Their hanging height ranges from 5m to 12m. The colony size ranged from 25 to more than 5000 individuals. P. giganteus occupied nearly 90% of their roosting environment around human settlement areas.
