Abstract
Background Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is recognized as an important cause of premature osteoarthritis in young adults, characterized by abnormal contact between the femoral head-neck junction and acetabulum. While morphological features associated with FAI are well-described, their prevalence in asymptomatic populations remains incompletely understood. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of CT-measured morphological parameters associated with cam- and pincer-type FAI in young, asymptomatic adults. Methods A retrospective secondary data analysis was conducted on 50 patients (100 hip joints) aged 18-36 years who underwent CT pelvis imaging between July and December 2024 at Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences. Patients with congenital hip deformities, osteoarthritis, or neurological deficits were excluded. Radiological parameters associated with FAI were assessed, including alpha angle >55°, femoral head-neck offset <8 mm, acetabular version angle <15°, lateral center-edge angle >40°, acetabular index <0°, pistol-grip deformity, acetabular crossover sign, and posterior wall signs. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 21.0.
