Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disease marked by poor blood glucose control, primarily a chronic
state of hyperglycemia, as well as frequent episodes of hypoglycemia due to various pathogenic processes.
The disease is primarily classified as type 1 and type 2, but there are other specific types that can be
attributed to endocrinopathies, drugs, infections, immunologic, genetic, and pancreatic causes. These
