NANOTECHNOLOGY AND NANOMEDICINE

Abstract
“Nano” is derived from latin word “dwarf”. It refers to one billionth of a meter in linear measurement. Invention of light microscope (LM) in 1632 had magnification x 400 diameters revealing microorganisms in micrometer size – cell as unit of life – cellular physiology and pathology. Gold coated nanoshells are having silica as a core material absorb the light in the near infrared region (NIR) and convert it into heat (40 degree c), delivering to cancer cells like laser photo coagulation, a noninvasive technique.
