Incidence of concha bullosa and its association with nasal septum deviation

Abstract
Background
Recognising anatomical variations linked to diseased findings is highly beneficial for diagnosis and
treatment. The major goal of our study was to assess different anatomical variants (superior, middle,
inferior turbinate concha bullosa, uncinate bulla, and NSB) that are related to nasal septal deviation
and are crucial factors to take into account when developing a diagnosis or treatment strategy.
Methods
The present hospital based prospective study was conducted at Department of radiology of a tertiary
care hospital among 401 patients undergoing CT Brain / PNS during the study period of July 2022-
September 2022. The study was done with the help of 3D reconstructed model of patients who have
undergone CT for various reasons and who meet the inclusion criteria. Results were analyzed using
SPSS verision27.0.
Results
Maximum cases are in 21-40 years that is 36.6%. In sex maximum cases are in male which is 72.9% and
cases are female that is 27.1%. In side 25.1% cases are right side and 24.9% cases are of left side.
Superior turbinate majority cases are bilateral which is 16.9% and 11.4% cases are Unilateral. In middle
turbinate 8.5% cases are bilateral and 7.2% cases are unilateral and in inferior turbinate 4% cases are
bilateral and 2.5% cases are unilateral. there is a statistically significant difference between age group
and middle turbinate (p<0.05). Other variable does not show any statistically significant difference
between demographic profiles (p>0.05).
Conclusion
In diagnosing or treating nasal septal deviation, anatomical alterations like concha bullosa are crucial.
The radiologist must focus on anatomical differences during preoperative examination, and surgeons
must be aware of them.
