Health Benefits of Interior Landscaping: A Medical Perspective
Parampreet Kaur, Satish Kumar Jyoti
Abstract
Urbanization has significantly reduced access to green spaces, contributing to increased health challenges such as poor air quality, stress, and chronic diseases. This paper explores the integration of indoor plants, highlighting their health benefits, including air purification, mental well-being, and disease prevention. Studies, including NASA’s research on indoor air quality, reveal that plants like peace lilies and areca palms effectively remove toxins while enhancing humidity. The psychological benefits, such as stress reduction and improved sleep, are underscored by the Attention Restoration Theory and aromatherapy research. This paper offers evidence-based methods to incorporate plants into urban apartments, discusses their role in promoting sustainable living, and provides practical guidelines for maximizing their impact on health. By bridging the gap between urbanization and nature, interior landscaping emerges as a transformative approach to fostering physical and mental well-being.
