Effect of Alumina Contents on the Some Mechanical Properties of Alumina (Al2O3) Reinforced Polymer Composites
Ahmed Jadah Farhan, Wasan Ali Hussein
Abstract
The study dealt with a composites that were from epoxy prepared as well unsaturated polyester resins as a matrixes mixed with different weight percent of 0%, 1%, 3% and 5% of alumina with particle size (<50)μm. All composite materials specimens were underwent tests for impact, compression, tensile, hardness and bending. Composite materials were of higher significant impact strength compared to materials of matrix. Impact strength enhancement is proportional directly to the alumina weight fraction of where composites of epoxy/alumina of higher impact strength compared to composites of unsaturated polyester/alumina with fraction of equivalent weight. Epoxy/alumina composite considered as impact strength of highest with 5% alumina, that is 82.74% higher compared to materials of matrix.
