Comparative Effect of Botulinum Toxin Therapy in Trigeminal Neuralgia With and Without Oral Medication: A Case Control Prospective Study

Abstract
Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a debilitating neuropathic pain disorder often inadequately controlled with oral medications. Botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) has emerged as a potential therapeutic option either as monotherapy or in combination with standard pharmacotherapy.
Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of BoNT-A therapy with and without concomitant oral medication in patients with TN.
Methods: This single-center, interventional case–control study was conducted on sixty patients with classical or idiopathic TN were randomized into two groups: Group A (n=30) received BoNT-A injections plus oral medication, and Group B (n=30) received BoNT-A injections alone. Patients were assessed at baseline, 14, 30, and 90 days using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and daily pain attack frequency. Safety and tolerability measures were recorded.
