Comparative Analysis of File, Block, and Object Storage Access Models: Architecture, Performance, and Use Case Implications
Srikanth Nimmagadda
Abstract
This paper presents a comparative analysis of three primary storage access models—File, Block, and Object storage. It evaluates their architectural differences, access protocols, performance characteristics, and typical use cases across on-premises and cloud-based environments. The study aims to guide infrastructure architects, DevOps engineers, and cloud practitioners in selecting the most suitable storage paradigm for specific workload requirements. By examining performance metrics, scalability considerations, and real-world deployment patterns, the paper offers a framework for informed storage decision-making in modern IT ecosystems.
