Abstract
Background: Bullying in schools is regarded as a global issue and phenomenon. When compared to other school categories, primary school students are more likely to become involved in bullying at school. According to data from the United Nations Children's Fund, 70% of Egyptian children between the ages of 13 and 15 report having experienced bullying. Students who are bullied or victimized not only have negative effects on their physical status but also on their emotional, psychological, and social well-being, all of which have an impact on various facets of their behavior. Aim: This study aimed at improving students’ behavior and mental health through assessing the prevalence of bullying and behavioral disorders. Methods: 125 sixth-grade primary school students from public and private schools in Ismailia City participated in a cross-sectional study that was carried out using multi-stage random sampling. One sixth-year class from each chosen school was chosen at random from among all the sixth-year classes. Students filled out a bully survey, a strengths and difficulties questionnaire, and an interview questionnaire covering child demographics, family, community, and school factors of bullying exposure. Results: Bullying and clinical range of behavioral disorders were prevalent among school students in Ismailia City, Egypt. Conclusion: Upcoming follow-up and psychiatric evaluations of students are advised.
