With the rapid growth of the metaverse, new opportunities have also given rise to various crimes in this domain. As a result, prosecuting crimes within the metaverse and ensuring punishment transparently—considering users' real identities, data protection, privacy, judicial jurisdiction, and cybercrimes—presents numerous legal challenges. Additionally, determining the legal status of avatars stands as one of the key challenges, suggesting that current laws may be inadequate. This research aims to identify and analyze the legal challenges in the prosecution and punishment of metaverse crimes, to address these issues through a comprehensive and effective approach. The findings indicate that new laws and international cooperation are necessary to tackle these legal challenges. These laws should focus on preventing problems in the metaverse and safeguarding users' rights within this virtual space. Given the decentralized nature of the metaverse, the role of governments in formulating and enforcing these laws is essential. Ultimately, a comprehensive, international approach is required to prevent legal issues and the harm caused by metaverse-related crimes
