Aggression and its Predictor Variables: An Overview
Dr Garima
Abstract
This review paper aims to understand the relationship between aggression and other factors by synthesizing key studies conducted in Western contexts. Research has consistently found aggression to be associated with variables such as hostility, personality traits (e.g., impulsiveness and neuroticism), and external triggers like frustration. The paper explores studies on aggression in intimate relationships, dating violence, workplace aggression, and delinquent behavior, examining correlates such as anxiety, anger, and personality disorders. While the focus is on Western research, the paper acknowledges the need for more studies in Indian and Eastern contexts, given cultural differences that may impact the dynamics of aggression. This paper concludes with a call for further research to identify the antecedents of aggression, which would be beneficial for understanding and controlling aggressive behaviors in diverse settings.
