ASSOCIATION OF ANKLE-BRACHIAL INDEX WITH THE SEVERITY OF CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE IN PATIENTS WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY FROM A TERTIARY CARE CENTER IN NORTH INDIA
Dr. Anshul Sharma, Dr. Harminder Singh, Dr. Rajesh Nandal
Abstract
Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis and a
markedly increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD). Early identification of high-risk patients is
essential to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The ankle-brachial index (ABI) is a
simple, inexpensive, and non-invasive bedside test used to detect peripheral arterial disease and
systemic atherosclerosis. This study aimed to evaluate the association between ABI and the presence
and severity of CAD in patients with T2DM.
