A MULTIBAND MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA WITH RAMPART LINE STRUCTURE FOR UWB APPLICATIONS

Abstract

The main aim of this project is to design and simulate a probe-fed microstrip patch antenna for ultra wideband (UWB) applications using ANSYS High-Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software. The probe feed improves impedance matching. RT- Duroid with dielectric constant 2.2 and height 2mm has been used as a substrate for the proposed structure. In this design, a rectangular patch antenna with rampart line structure has been used. The rampart line structure is etched into a rectangular patch for achieving size reduction and also to achieve multi band characteristics. Subsequently, rectangle slots that improve antenna radiation. Finally, Defected Ground Structure (DGS) is used to improve parameters like gain and bandwidth. The proposed multiband antenna is designed for the ultra wideband applications. The outputs of the simulation show convincing results. The proposed antenna operates at three frequencies, viz. 4.9 GHz, 8.9 GHz, and 9.3 GHz, all of which come within UWB band (3.1-10.6 GHz).
